Ocassionwear at Royal Ascot

Ever since Audrey Hepburn's Eliza Dolittle graced Ascot Racecourse dressed in lace and monochrome in the 1964 film My Fair Lady we've had a love affair with the classic combination for high society and occasion dressing. Over 50 years later the trend shows no signs of slowing down.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Poldark's Eleanor Tomlinson have both previously worn all white midi versions to attend Royal Ascot. With a design reminiscent of her fairytale wedding gown, Kate looked to her favourite designer Sarah Burton of Alexander MQueen to dress her for the royal occasion, whilst Eleanor chose emerging design house Three Floor.

Fashion designer Amanda Wakeley chose masculine tailoring (a la Annie Hall) to work the monochrome look whilst Holly Willoughby opted for delicate black and white florals from Finery London accessorised with an intricate Philip Tracey hat and simple sandals.

I created my own Royal Ascot take on the classic combination with this gorgeous lace dress from Maje teamed with black suede courts and a black bespoke hat. I kept the hat quite small and wore my hair up to avoid an overload of black and to allow the dress to be the statement piece.
