With the big ‘ho, ho, ho’ just over a week away, the Christmas shopping (almost) done and the turkey on order, your thoughts may well be turning to what to wear for Christmas Day itself. Even if you’re spending the day at home, most of us like to put together a festive outfit to mark the occasion.
For this month’s blog I’ve put together some suggestions to inspire you no matter how you may be spending the day, I’ve aimed to combine comfort with style and have chosen pieces that can be worn in different ways for New Year’s Eve and beyond. Buy less, choose well and wear it in as many ways as possible is always my mantra…
Most of us will be spending the day in the comfort of our own homes so whilst we may want to add a little sparkle, you will also want to feel completely at ease to lounge around all day, eating, drinking and generally being merry.
Comfort & Style
A pair of leggings would always be at the top of the comfort list, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on style; Mint Velvet do this fabulous velvet pair which add a touch of luxe to a super casual style staple (they could also be dressed up with heels and a slinky top for New Year’s Eve).
For a casual Christmas day at home I would style them with a colourful oversized knit like this stunning Teal Cashmere Roll Neck from Hush (teal is a universal colour so it flatters all skin tone, another reason it’s a great choice to make you look and feel fabulous)
Adding A Little Elegance
If leggings are too causal for you then a pleated midi skirt is a great way to up the style stakes whilst also remaining comfortable. Many of us are likely to own this wardrobe staple by now as it’s been popular for a number of seasons however if you are on the lookout for one then this sparkly number from Warehouse is the perfect festive option.
For a more casual feel pair your pleated skirt with a sweatshirt or loose, chunky knit (just remember to give a half tuck at the front to create shape and show your waist). If you’re heading out for Christmas lunch and want to dress it up a little go for a fitted top and some knee high boots.
Going Glam
If you’re going all-out glamour on Christmas day then look no further than this Whistles skirt and top which can be worn together for maximum impact and then styled separately for a whole range of different looks. The good news is that sparkle will never go out of style so these two pieces will remain in your wardrobe for years to come, ensuring you get your cost per wear on each item.
Somewhere between super glam and sofa chic?
Enter the trusty sparkly top and jeans combo! Most of my clients have this Whistles top in one or more colours - the sparkle is subtle but undeniably there and its so easy to dress up or down. It looks great with a leather skirt, coated skinnies, a pleated midi or… a pair of jeans. To keep the look relaxed and current try styling with some looser fitting cropped straight-leg jeans and an elegant pair of mules like this pair from Zara to keep the overall look feminine and stylish.
…and if none of the above options appeal there’s always your fave Christmas jumper or PJs! At the end of the day, as long as you feel comfortable and fabulous that is really all that matters.
