Morning or night – when’s the best time to tan?

“This depends on your regime and the type of tan you’re using,” Jules begins. “If you’re using self-tan without a guide color and you have no plans to work out in the day, then tanning in the morning is a good option. Using a clear self-tanwith no guide color will mean no transfer on clothes or furniture as the tan develops.”

But it can all come down to preference. For those who prefer tanning at night, Jules advises, “Try to do this at least an hour before bed to give the tan time to sink into the skin. Wear loose PJs to bed, if possible, to avoid the tan transferring from one limb to the other.” And if sleeping in your tan isn’t appealing? “use an express tan that develops in as little as 30 minutes.”

Last-minute tanning: quick and efficient

Caught in a pinch for time? Jules has the solution: “For last-minute self-tans, try using a mousse, taking minutes to apply and developing in as little as 30 minutes. Use a whipped, lightweight formula suitable for all skin tones. Leave for 30 minutes for a sun-kissed glow, after one hour a golden glow, and after two hours a deep bronzed tan.”

The art of removing fake tan

Jules offers a reliable method for those wanting to remove their tan completely, “I recommend using a tan remover. Spray onto the skin, massage in so a lather is formed, and leave for five minutes.” He adds a pro tip, “I love spraying a sheet mask with it too. Keep returning to the skin and re-massaging every minute, paying special attention to those areas that are slightly dryer - elbows, knees, in between the thighs, and armpits.”

Exfoliator gloves or exfoliator – which one?

“Both can be used in tandem,” Jules suggests for those in doubt between exfoliator gloves or an exfoliator. “If you’reusing exfoliating gloves, work in circular motions, paying attention to hands, elbows, knees, and feet. Gloves can be used with a physical scrub.” For those opting for a glycolic tan remover, he recommends using it on an alternate day so the skin has had time to balance.
