Royal Ascot With Closet London

I love Royal Ascot! From the moment I saw Audrey Hepburn in a lace fishtail gown and oversized hat as Eliza Dolittle in my Fair Lady I was completely hooked. The glamour, the tradition, the pomp, as one of our most celebrated social events of the year, it’s no on wonder fashion editors across the globe wait with bated breath to see what the A - list and Royals finally choose to parade themselves in. Perhaps it’s the Royal seal of approval that heightens the drama in the fashion stakes, however standing out from the crowd can be somewhat of an achievement given the meetings strict dress code with many opting to show off their styling prowess in more elegant, vintage silhouettes. The Duchess of Cambridge is always a winner for me. From her lace Alexander McQueen dresses of previous years to this weeks powder blue Elie Saab and Philip Tracey ensemble, there’s always a nod to classic styles of past decades.

I have been lucky enough to attend the meeting for several years now and this year i’m collaborating with Closet London.

Closet London

Famed for their go-to dress designs, gorgeous separates, tailored jackets and seasonal outerwear; the brand creates everything from their collection within their design house in London with a strong focus on ethical manufacturing.

At Closet London, we make contemporary womenswear that tells a story. We are loved for our elegant shapes and stunning prints, and our passionate team of designers and pattern-cutters design and make garments in London, just as they have for over 20 years.

We are inspired by the confident and feminine style of our Closet Woman.  Busy lunch meetings, Thursday's date night, a close friend’s wedding; we know that she is always on the lookout for something which she can wear her way. Each of our collections tells a fresh and inspiring story and we offer a quirky, thoughtful experience that bring lots of personality to everything we do. Closet London is more than the dress you wear.

Summer Dressing - Traffic People

I love dressing for Summer! It’s the time of year when I pull out all of my favourite little dresses which given our unpredictable island weather, seem to spend of half the year sitting miserably at the back of my wardrobe until the first glimmer of sunshine arrives. I think you can’t go wrong with a dress. I know separates are practical but a dress can effortlessly take you from day to night with just the addition of the right shoe. If you’re wearing shorts during the day and then add a heel I think you can often look a little too dressy, especially if you’re only going for after work drinks and so the simple summer dress is still my go to for summer styling. I particularly love this off the shoulder version from Traffic People. It’s so easy to wear and again can be dressed up or down with flats or a heel. For the perfect bank holiday feel I’ve gone for platform wedges to create a soft, relaxed look that can easily be worn for garden bbq’s. Alternatively wear with stilettos and a box clutch for cocktails with the girls or date night! Shop the dress below.

Ocassionwear at Royal Ascot

Ever since Audrey Hepburn's Eliza Dolittle graced Ascot Racecourse dressed in lace and monochrome in the 1964 film My Fair Lady we've had a love affair with the classic combination for high society and occasion dressing. Over 50 years later the trend shows no signs of slowing down.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Poldark's Eleanor Tomlinson have both previously worn all white midi versions to attend Royal Ascot. With a design reminiscent of her fairytale wedding gown, Kate looked to her favourite designer Sarah Burton of Alexander MQueen to dress her for the royal occasion, whilst Eleanor chose emerging design house Three Floor.

Fashion designer Amanda Wakeley chose masculine tailoring (a la Annie Hall) to work the monochrome look whilst Holly Willoughby opted for delicate black and white florals from Finery London accessorised with an intricate Philip Tracey hat and simple sandals.

I created my own Royal Ascot take on the classic combination with this gorgeous lace dress from Maje teamed with black suede courts and a black bespoke hat. I kept the hat quite small and wore my hair up to avoid an overload of black and to allow the dress to be the statement piece.

Summer Nights

With temperatures soaring this summer its the perfect excuse to work classic coral and gold hues for a truly tropical look. Combine with beachy waves and ultra bronzed make up and even the most structured prom dress can look more relaxed. I recently wore this Dorothy Perkins Coral Camisole version to an awards event.

I teamed it with my favourite (and comfortable) nude Zara pumps and Swarovski and Accessorize gold jewellery for a summery take on the classic cocktail dress.
